Relying on the domestic innovative resources in disaster prevention and mitigation, the joint laboratory attaches great importance to cooperative research with internationally renowned universities or research institutions, and has carried out deeply cooperation with nearly 100 internationally renowned universities and research institutions, such as University of Science and Technology, Bannu, Pakistan, Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea, University of California, Berkeley in the United States, Cambridge University in the United Kingdom and FM global. The cooperations with 39 universities or research institutes in “One belt and one road” countries are also conducted. The joint research focuses on the integration of disciplines such as disaster prevention and reduction, civil engineering, materials, mechanics, big data, information and artificial intelligence, continuously condenses new academic hotspots in combination with social needs, and leads the discipline direction. The joint research has achieved fruitful results in the fields of structural intelligent disaster prevention and control, green building and industrialization, intelligent construction and operation and maintenance.
The representative cooperation partner in “One belt and one road” countries is the University of science and technology, Bannu, Pakistan, which is also the foreign support organization of the joint laboratory. This is mainly due to the popularity of University of science and technology, Bannu in the field of disaster prevention and reduction in Pakistan and the deep friendship and stable cooperation environment between China and Pakistan. The Laboratory Director Professor Zhao-Dong Xu and Foreign The Laboratory Director President Abid Ali Shah took the lead in obtaining the National key R & D plan, strategic international cooperation key special project technical R & D and application demonstration with cooperation for viscoelastic damping recovery and retrofit of post-earthquake buildings in 2016. In 2017, Southeast University signed a cooperation agreement with University of Science and Technology, Bannu, and the Disaster Prevention and Health Monitoring Collaborative Innovation Center between University of Science and Technology, Bannu and Southeast University was established. A university level cooperation memorandum was signed in 2018. The cooperation methods mainly include academic conferences, talent training, international joint research, disaster prevention and reduction project demonstration, etc. For example, President abid Ali Shah has long-term cooperation with Professor Zhao-Dong, Xu. They visited each other and gave scientific lectures for more than 10 times, and cooperated to train more than 20 postgraduates, such as Waseem Sarwar, Khan Ali Nisar, Asif Ali luck, Rizwan, etc. The cooperation between the two groups has achieved the first seismic vibration suppression and metigation project demonstration in Pakistan, which has contributed a lot to promote the sublimation of China-Pakistan traditional friendship and the development of disaster prevention and reduction.
